Week11 – ADV3662

On April 16, 2011, in Week 11, by Genevieve HItchings

Hello everyone,

As we move into spring break I thought I would remind you of what all needs to get done between now and when we reconvene. (I am sorry have to burden you with work over the break. Just remember summer is around the corner and then hopefully you can truly relax.)

The project is DUE: Monday May 9th (two weeks after spring break).

Here are the source files from our last lesson in class: lesson
In the zipped file you will find:
1. An example of a built out website. Notice how the main timeline has a ‘labels’ layer. If you look at the action script you will see that the code links to the label not a frame number. Labels must appear in quotes in the action script.
2. The main scene also allows for a short animation. The buttons fade in slowly. Notice how the actions keyframe does not appear until later in the timeline. Also note how the content layer, containing all the section movie clips, appears under and after the actions keyframe.
3. I have also included a file called: ScrollingTxt-Components.fla. This is a very simple way of creating a text scroll bar. I will show another version of this when we meet again. Here is a good online tutorial that shows you how to build one:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6EFikPVwio
4. I have also included a folder titled: ‘FilesForUploadingAFlashSite.’ To upload a flash site you have to insert the ‘swf; into an html page. In the atttached version I used CSS to position the swf with in the page. I saved the html page as ‘index.html’ and then I went into ‘insert/media/swf’ and navigated to the folder with my swf (the same way you would upload an image in dreamweaver). Dreamweaver automatically creates a folder called ‘scripts,’ which you will also need. You then upload all three files to your server. If you do not want this to be the main page of your website, you can create a sub domain but setting up a new folder within your server. Place the three files into the new folder that you set up. To view your posted site you would type: your domain name/ the folder name: example: www.artorium.com/instruction.

Try to get as much of your site built out as possible. You should have the main scene built out as well as all the movie clips for the three required subsections. If you are having issues with your action scripting we can probably resolve that fairly quickly in our next class. Remember if one little thing is off with your code, it will mess up your entire project. So even if you are getting error messages, try build out the content for each section.

Good luck with it! Feel free to email me if you get stuck. We can try to set up a phone date to problem solve.

Best,

Genevieve
