As faculty in the Communication Design Department, a BFA program at City Tech, I teach graphic design not simply as a theoretical process, but as an active collaboration between designer and stakeholder.
I encourage students to approach communication design as a collaborative and problem-solving discipline: to understand the needs of their audience and stakeholders, to investigate complex subjects, and to use visual form to clarify and communicate information. My professional and academic work therefore operate in dialogue with one another, with each informing my continued exploration of how communication design can be taught and practiced as an effective means of understanding and communicating complex ideas.
